The Maine Local Foods Access Network is leading a statewide effort to expand nutrition incentives, now called Maine Harvest Bucks, at farmers’ markets, local food retail outlets like food hubs and co-ops,  mobile farm stands, and CSA farms, so that SNAP/EBT shoppers can get healthy, local food, plus bonus produce to make those limited benefits stretch a lot further. Maine Harvest Bucks increases the value of federal nutrition assistance funds at participating markets, helping families bring home more locally-grown fruits and vegetables. The wins are three-fold: low-income Mainers eat more healthy food, Maine farmers gain new customers, and more food dollars stay in the local economy. Share Maine’s bounty with all Mainers by helping the Maine Local Foods Access Network bring the Maine Harvest Bucks program to more communities across Maine.
